According to a survey carried out by Credant Technologies, more people leave USB sticks, phones and other mobile devices in taxis at Christmas, than any other time of the year.
The company carried out the survey in London, among 300 licensed cab drivers.
It found that Londoners leave around 10,000 mobile phones a month in taxis and over 1,000 other handheld devices, including USB sticks, iPods, and laptops.
Sean Glynn Credant Technologies said: “We carry out our taxi survey regularly and it’s clear that none of us are infallible, especially at this busy time of year, when it’s all too easy to forget things when you’re travelling.”
“Back in the good old days when a Window was something you looked out of, and a Mac was something you wore in the rain, it used to be small items like brollies and briefcases stuffed full of boring office papers.
“Now it’s laptops, smartphone’s and thumb drives, all chock-full of valuable information to an identity thief.”
In order to protect your data Credant suggests you should always encrypt data on a USB stick, and make sure you use a strong password and other security features.
