First wireless USB products certified
Permalink: First wireless USB products certified

According to the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), the first wireless USB (WUSB) peripherals to have officially passed the Wireless USB (WUSB) 1.0 Certification Program are on their way to market.
The products will both complement and compete with other short-range wireless technologies such as ultra wideband (UWB) and the wireless high-definition interface (WHDI).
The first certified WUSB products will mainly be hubs and dongles which consumers can plug into a USB port on a PC to wirelessly communicate with a USB hub in a different part of a room.
Other USB devices can then be connected to the hub and controlled from the computer.
WUSB technology will eventually be incorporated into products such as digital cameras and printers, allowing devices to wirelessly communicate with each other without the need for a hub.
The first wave of certified WUSB products includes a D-Link Wireless USB adapter which will sell for $120 and a 4-port wireless USB hub, also from D-Link, with a retail price of around $220.
