USB connectors feature EMI and ESD protection

Spectrum Control Inc has launched a series of USB connectors with EMI (electromagnetic interference) or ESD (electrostatic discharge) filters. This frees up PCB board space for other components and enhances the protection provided to the entire device.

The connectors are drop-in replacements for unfiltered connectors, and are designed to facilitate the further miniaturization of peripheral devices, without the need for manufacturers to redesign PCBs.

The connectors have a range of possible applications, including EMI/RFI sensitive electronics, test and measurement equipment, notebook computers, industrial controls and data acquisition.

Many of the connectors are USB 2.0 and USB On-The-Go (OTG) compliant and all are RoHS compliant. The connectors provide a working voltage of 5Vdc with a current rating of 1A maximum and a contact resistance of 30m? maximum. The EMI-filtered USB connectors come with either a capacitive filter for USB 1.1 or with an inductive filter for USB 2.0.

Spectrum Control, which is based in Fairview, USA, manufactures precision co-moulded conductive plastic potentiometers and position sensors, as well as element segments and cable assemblies.
