Buffalo Technology has launched the MiniStation TurboUSB HD-PS320U2 - the first external drive with 320GB capacity.

The drive, which is ideal for users who wish to store large amounts of data on the move, features an armoured, shock absorbent casing.

It has a wraparound USB cable to provide all the power for the device directly from the PC it is connected to, eliminating the need for an external power source.

At 5,400rpm, the drive provides file transfer rates up to 64 per cent faster than the more usual 4,200rpm USB hard drive.

The drive comes with Buffalo’s Secure Lock Ware, which provides 256-bit AES encryption. Memeo AutoBackup software is also provided for scheduled backup and password protection.

The product is compatible with all Windows 2000, XP and Vista and all Mac OS X, including Leopard.

The MiniStation TurboUSB HD-PS320U2 will be available in December, priced at £155 excluding VAT.
