A new report from In-Stat, ‘Interface Survey 2008: Tracking Interface Usage On Work and Home PCs’, identifies USB as the most popular interface. USB connections are available on the greatest number of devices, both at home and in the work environment, according to In-Stat’s research.

In-Stat surveyed 2,200 technology early adopters, asking questions about the interfaces on both their home and work PCs. The survey also looked at what devices the respondents connected to the interfaces.

USB was followed in second place, as the interface found most frequently on PCs, by IEEE 1394 bus. However, 1394 was also the least used interface, on both home and work PCs, in percentage terms.

Around 55% of respondents did not use the 1394 interface on their work PCs, while 40% did not use it on their home PC.

FireWire, DVI, and Bluetooth were found to be available on a large number of notebook and desktop PCs.

The survey also found that 34% of respondents were at least somewhat familiar with ultrawideband, 44% were at least somewhat familiar with wireless USB, and 56% of respondents with Bluetooth phones connect their PCs to a Bluetooth headset.
