AM Micro has launched Mouse Jiggler, a USB dongle from WiebeTech which makes sure a mouse keeps moving so a computer doesn’t shut down mid-download.

The device is portable and automatic with no software to install or run. It simply plugs into a USB port and is ready to go.

Mouse Jiggler is designed to help with tasks such as downloading large files, installing software packages or performing a backup, ensuring that a computer won’t enter sleep or ScreenSaver mode and interrupt the process.

The gadget comes in two versions, both priced at £22.95. MJ-1 uses constant slow motions which are nearly imperceptible and allow normal use of the computer while the device is in operation. MJ-2 uses large, jerkier motions to show at a glance Mouse Jiggler is working.
