New research by iSupply Corporation, which monitors the status of the electronics industry value chain, shows that USB is the interface of choice for people to transfer content on and off their mobile phones.
iSupply found that USB was employed in more handsets than all other interface standards combined in 2006.
The company believes that USB will keep its dominant position until at least the end of 2010, when it will be included on 764 handsets distributed that year. iSupply also thinks that Bluetooth will gain in popularity to the extent that it will be fitted to almost all handsets by 2010, while WLAN and WiFi will have gained a significant market presence.
iSupply also anticipates an increase in the use of flash memory add-in cards.
iSuppli’s new report is entitled: Mobile Handset Connectivity and Convergence: Opportunities and Impacts of Sideloading Content. The report covers the worldwide market for mobile peripheral and memory interfaces for handsets.
