Toshiba has announced a new device in its Protege series - the G450. The phone is also a modem, a USB data storage device and an MP3 player.

The G450 plugs into any USB socket to provide broadband PC access to the web, emails or office network over 3G/HSDPA mobile networks, or EDGE or GPRS connections. There is no need to configure any settings - simply ‘plug and play’.

The phone can be used to make and receive calls while connected to the Internet, when on a 3G/HSDPA network. All the key phone functions are available, including voice calling, SMS texting and an alarm clock.

The lightweight device features a Qualcomm MSM6280 chipset and has 160MB user available memory for storage. It weighs just 57g, measures 36mm x 98mm x 16mm and comes in black, red, or white colour schemes.

The Toshiba G450 will be available across Europe in the first quarter of 2008.
