Apricorn, the US-based personal storage company, has launched the Aegis Bio hardware encrypted biometric hard drive.
The drive is designed with the security requirements of mobile professionals in mind.
UPEK’s TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor allows users to access their data with the swipe of a finger, eliminating the need to remember passwords.
The Oxford Semiconductor encryption engine encrypts data with 128-bit AES in real-time. This renders data on the 2.5″ drive impenetrable even if it is removed from the enclosure.
After fingerprint registration, the hardware handles all authentication without the user having to go through a software interface, making the device cross platform compatible.
As well as securing the data on the drive, the device allows users to login to Windows and password protected applications with the swipe of a finger via UPEK’s Protector Suite Token software.
The device comes with a 3-year warranty and a 16-point omni-directional shock mounting system to protect it from accidental knocks.
Apricorn’s Aegis Bio is available online at www.apricorn.com, from $199.
