Flash pioneer Pretec, debuted the smallest USB flash drive in the world to include radio frequency identification (RFID) technology at CeBit 2007, the international technology exhibition.
The i-Disk RFID has a volume of 1.23 cubic centimetres and measures around a quarter of the size of a traditional USB flash drive.
Pretec produces the drive in a range of capacities, from 128 megabytes to one gigabyte. The integral RFID chip enables data to be remotely retrieved and automatically identified when it is placed near a designated reading system.
Pretec is marketing the device as suitable for a range of applications in industry and commerce.
It is also suitable to store a patient’s medical information and its robust and waterproof casing means that it is durable enough to be worn as a bracelet or necklace.
