Staccato Communications, the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless specialist, has announced industry’s first 65nm all-CMOS chip.

The Ripcord2 family of single-chip, all-CMOS solutions, is designed for WiMedia UWB and Wireless USB applications.

Ripcord2 provides a substantial improvement in power, size and integration compared with existing solutions, and supports Wireless USB, High-Speed Bluetooth, Wireless IP and Wireless Audio/Video.

The module, which measures 8.5mm x 6mm, also provides support for WiMedia Band Groups 1, 3 and 6, and has detection and avoidance (DAA) capability, providing a single device that is compatible worldwide.

Ripcord2 is suitable for use in a range of consumer devices, including handsets, DSC/DVC, printers, PMP, wireless audio/video and mass storage.

Samples of the chip and development kits (DVKs) have been distributed to selected customers and Staccato is developing several reference designs which will be released shortly.

Ripcord 2 is based on the Wireless USB 1.0 Specification and the WiMedia UWB Common Radio Platform.

Staccato Communications has its headquarters in San Diego, California.
