LucidPort introduces second wireless USB chip

Permalink: LucidPort introduces second wireless USB chip

US-based semiconductor manufacturer, LucidPort Technology, has revealed its second wireless USB chip. The L802 general purpose controller chip is based on the USB Implementer Forum’s Certified Wireless USB standard.

The L802 uses WiMedia UWB technology to interoperate with other UWB and Certified Wireless USB devices, at transfer speeds up to 480 Mbps.

Although the chip features full Certified Wireless USB functionality, including beaconing, association, and encryption, this is combined with programmable flexibility to achieve substantial cost savings.

Descriptor based architecture allows the chip to be optimised for different usage models. It is configurable to meet different USB class requirements and can be used in a range of peripheral devices, including printers, scanners and digital cameras.

The L802 is sampling now, with mass production scheduled to commence in Q4, 2007. In large quantities, the L802 is priced around $4.50.
