Nokia adopts Micro USB

Permalink: Nokia adopts Micro USB

It seems that Nokia has finally started to support 100% USB, with the Nokia 6500 Classic featuring a Micro USB connection for power, data and audio.

Also, the recently released Nokia 8600 Luna has just one external socket, a microUSB port, rather than a charger jack, a universal connector and a mini-USB socket.

The replacement of the universal connector with Micro USB means that the wired headset will now go through the same port as the charger and PC data comm. cable.

MicroUSB differs from the more familiar miniUSB, as it uses an even thinner socket.

This could be the beginning of the end for the Nokia specific charger, although it isn’t yet known if Nokia will adopt 100% microUSB across its whole device range.
