Blackmagic Design Inc has announced its Blackmagic Video Recorder, a USB device which captures files direct to H.264 files for iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, YouTube, IPTV, Web or full resolution archiving.

The company is demonstrating the Blackmagic Video Recorder at the NAB 2008 Digital Media Industry Event.

Two models are available, an analog model for the consumer market, and an SDI one for professionals.

The Blackmagic Video Recorder will directly capture files for devices such as the iPod, eliminating the need for time consuming rendering.

Captured files can be dropped into iTunes for syncing with iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV devices.

The Blackmagic Video Recorder features high quality analog component, NTSC, PAL and S-Video input.

It can capture data from any analog source, including VHS, Video-8, DVD, Set top boxes etc.

The SDI version features standard definition SDI input and RS-422 deck control for connection to a broadcast deck.

The device will be available this July for €79 from Blackmagic Design authorised resellers, while the professional version will be priced at €199.
