Sony introduces wireless USB competitor - TransferJet

Sony has introduced TransferJet, a short-range, wireless technology which looks set to compete with the new wireless USB standard.
TransferJet offers a theoretical maximum data-transfer rate of 560Mbps in the 4.48GHz band. In practice, this is likely to be closer to 375Mbps. The technology has a range of just 3cm or less, because of its low-power.
Wireless USB offers lower maximum data-transfer rate of 480Mbps, but has a much greater range of 3m. However it is likely to be affected more by radio interference than TransferJet, as it uses a variety of spectrum bands.
Sony revealed the TransferJet technology at CES 2008 in Las Vegas. The technology can be used to transfer data between electronic devices - between a mobile phone and a television set for example.
Sony is expected to integrate TransferJet technology into its products, but the timescale for this is still unclear.
