Epcos Provides ESD protection for USB ports
Permalink: Epcos Provides ESD protection for USB ports

Epcos has developed the CeraDiode CDA6 array series for the ESD protection of two USB 2.0 ports. The product protects the four data lines and shields the supply voltage against overvoltages. The ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection meets the International Electrotechnical Commission’s Level 4 of IEC 61000-4-2. The protection is effective against both positive and negative voltages, a significant improvement on conventional TVS diodes.
The 1012 package, and the configuration of the pads were developed so that the array can replace the more expensive SOT23-6L diode solutions with no redesign of the circuit board.
CeraDiode CDA6 array series also provides a better thermal response than the semiconductor-based designs. It is suitable for voltages up to 5.6 VDC. It has a response time of less than 0.5 ns and features a parasitic capacitance of only 5 pF, so that no significant signal distortion or attenuation occurs even at high data rates. The array can be used in desktop computers, notebooks, set-top boxes, MP3 players, cameras and other consumer, IT and communication devices.
