Molex has introduced new Micro-USB connectors, providing increased design options for mobile devices.

Portable devices are becoming thinner, but this trend is limited by the size of current Mini-USB connectors.

The new Micro-USB connectors provide a more compact footprint that the Mini-USB, providing a space reduction of more than 50%. The makes the product ideal for use in today’s sleeker mobile devices.

The Micro-USB connectors comply with Micro-USB 1.0 Specifications and support the current USB On-The-Go (OTG) supplement.

They are available as Standard and Mid Mount ‘B’ receptacles, with lead-in features for blind mate capability.

The newer, more robust receptacles have wide side solder tabs for secured PCB retention and top grounding fingers to ensure they mate securely.

They also feature a unique, laser-welded shield design, which provides strong mechanical seams and a rigid connector body.

The connectors have a bevelled B-style profile which prevents mis-mating with A-type plugs.

Molex plans to develop a low-profile plug in the future.
