3 mobile has recorded a sevenfold increase in traffic over the last six months, with the help of its 3G USB broadband modems.

The USB dongle provides a broadband connection in any location, eliminating the need to find a Wi-Fi hotspot and pay a fee.

3 recently reduced the one-off cost for the modem to £69.99, cheaper than similar services from Vodafone and T-Mobile. The service is priced at £10 a month for 1GB of data.

According to 3, its network, which is merging with that of T-Mobile in the UK, can deliver 3.6 Mbps right now, and this will be boosted to 7.2 Mbps later this year and to 14.4 Mbps by the end of 2009.
