Sierra Wireless revealed its new Compass 885 USB modem at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, 11 - 14 February.

The compact modem features a microSD memory expansion slot, wireless download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, TRU-Install software to simplify set-up, and automatic software installation. It can roam globally on quad-band GSM/ EDGE networks and tri-band UMTS.

The Compass 885 USB modem is the only device in its class to include a connector for an external antenna. This allows users in remote areas, or locations where signal strength is poor, to extend and strengthen their network connection.

The modem is compatible with Mac and Windows systems, and will be available from mid-2008.
