Electronics manufacturer Amplicon has launched WiRanger, which it claims is the world’s first wireless USB2.0 extender.
WiRanger has a range of up to 30 metres and uses the 802.11g wireless standard for communication. The product is shipped in pairs and comes ready to use. The user simply selects channel 1, 6 or 11 to avoid interference from other devices.
WiRanger has a range of possible applications - for the temporary installation of point of sale equipment for example, or for use in listed buildings where cables cannot be installed.
According to David Evans, Data Communications Product Manager at Amplicon, the company has experienced strong sales growth in USB extenders over the past three years.
All Amplicon extenders are based on the ExtremeUSB protocol which provides reliability and transparency of operation.
