Verbatim’s 640GB USB hard drive doesn’t fit with the usual industry-standard capacity sizes, and at 3.5in is bigger than the usual 2.5in portable hard drives.

However, at 961 grammes, it isn’t too bulky to carry around, and costs a modest £69.99 from UK stores.

The plug and play device connects to a PC via a USB 2.0 port and comes with a separate power charger, shiny black case and Nero BackItUp 2 Essentials software.

The Sata (serial ATA) drive operates at 7,200 revolutions per minute allowing 4.8Mb of data to be backed up per second.
