Fujitsu has announced a compact, external Hard Disc Drive (HDD), which can hold 300GB of data, making it ideal for mobile workers who need to transport large amounts of data securely.

The USB 2.0 device can be charged via a laptop for convenience. Data is physically protected with a 16-point omnidirectional shock mounting design which should prevent damage should an accident occur.

The drive is pre-installed with Data Protection Suite for PC security and backup tools.

Apricorn’s EZ Gig II for Windows is also included. This provides an exact image, or clone of a system, and can compress these into a single file.

The Cryptainer encryption programme secures data with 448bit encryption, while Second Copy 2000 tools enables smooth file-sharing and multiple backups.

The drive should be released in the US in the autumn. Details of UK pricing and availability have not yet been revealed.
