Vodafone has announced an HSDPA USB modem called the ‘Stick’, providing fast internet on the go without having to pay for Wi-Fi hotspots.
The modem costs £49 with an 18 month contract and is available on Vodafone’s £25 Mobile Broadband flat rate. The tiny, lightweight device is Vodafone’s smallest and slimmest USB modem to date.
While the modem is capable of 7.2Mbps, this speed is only available at a few locations at the moment.
HSDPA coverage is being rolled in London, and is available at major airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, London City, Southampton, East Midlands, Liverpool, Manchester, Belfast City and Belfast International.
The Stick is compatible with Windows Vista and XP, and Mac OS X. Mac users will need to install the software from the included CD.
When the CD is inserted the computer’s default web browser takes the user through the installation process then places the installed software within the “Applications” folder.
The modem can then be activated by going to “Internet Connect” within the “Applications” folder, selecting “Vodafone E172″ and clicking on the connect button.
The modem comes with a USB extension cable.
