Broadcom announces chip for smaller USB adapters

Broadcom Corporation has announced the world’s first single-chip dual-band 802.11n solution for USB adapters.

The new Broadcom dual-band chip enables the production of smaller, cost-effective USB adapters, for connecting devices such as set-top boxes and PCs to a Wi-Fi network.

The Broadcom BCM4323 chip uses 65 nanometer CMOS technology, allowing the production of USB modules which are 50% smaller than those built with multi-chip solutions.

The smaller size also means that the bill of materials is the lowest in the industry for dual-band 802.11n USB adapters.

Performance is boosted with the company’s Accelerange technology, which provides the performance and range for HD content to be transferred between devices.

The BCM4323 single-chip 802.11n solution for USB adapters is shipping in production volumes, with pricing available upon request.
