Pressure sensitive USB mat from ComputerProx
Permalink: Pressure sensitive USB mat from ComputerProx

ComputerProx Corp has launched a pressure sensitive mat which plugs into the USB port of a computer, no custom drivers are required.
ProxMat uses ComputerProx’s KIT (Keyboard Interface Technology) which allows the mat to send commands via the USB interface directly to the computer. KIT essentially turns the ProxMat into a preprogrammed USB keyboard.
For machines running Windows XP, ProxMat can send the CTL-ALT-DEL sequence when the user approaches the PC, making the PC ready for password entry.
When the user steps away from the machine the ProxMat issues the “Windows Key + L” command, which locks down the computer. The mat can also put the computer into stand-by mode, helping to save energy.
By automating the locking process, the mat eliminates reliance on the user and helps to enforce company computer policies.
It can help prevent security breaches caused by unauthorised people accessing sensitive data on unattended computers, or tampering with the machine.
Sounds a good idea for terminals operated from a standing position, but could be annoying for the majority of people who operate a computer from sitting - swivel in your chair to talk to a co-worker and your computer locks down.
