Virtualisation available via USB Drive

VMware, the virtualisation software company, is introducing a public beta version of ACE 2 Enterprise Edition, an upgrade of its ACE program for virtualising desktop computers so they can run multiple software or operating systems.
The software now features Pocket ACE, which allows the user to store the ACE desktop virtualisation tool on a USB drive, a portable hard drive or an Apple iPod. This can be plugged into a remote computer and the virtualisation software can then be run on that computer.
Pocket ACE is ideal for mobile workers, allowing them to use desktop computers by simply plugging in the USB drive, rather than having to rely on a laptop.
Another new feature of the upgraded ACE program is VMware ACE Management Server, which gives a system administrator control over the virtualisation program run on desktops.
VMware ACE Management Server allows an administrator to control access, security settings and software updates from a single console.
Changes in settings are delivered to the client computer when they connect to the corporate server. Desktop or laptop computers running VMware ACE can run the virtual desktop on their computers alongside whatever operating system and files are already installed.
The administrator can also shut off the virtual desktop remotely when needed.
VMware ACE 2 Enterprise edition is currently in public beta for Linux and Windows users and is available for download at www.vmware.com/products/beta/ace/.
