Renesas Technology Europe has extended its SuperH family of chips with eight new SH7670 microprocessors, each featuring an Ethernet controller and USB 2.0 high-speed (480Mbit/s) host on a single chip.

The chips are designed for use in digital audio visual devices, office automation and factory automation systems requiring network connectivity.

The SH7670 microprocessor operates at a maximum frequency of 200MHz, at which speed it yields 480DMIPS.

It features a single/double-precision floating point unit (FPU), which ensures that algorithms do not slow down when an application is moved from the PC to embedded hardware.

The SH7670 implements an IEEE802.3 compliant media access controller (MAC) which allows the development of systems supporting 10 and 100Mbit/s Ethernet LAN connections.

A Renesas Starter Kit (RSK) is under development and should be available by the second quarter of 2008.
