Cat5 USB Extender Launched by LINDY Electronics

LINDY Electronics has launched a Cat5 USB Extender. The device consists of a local unit which connects to a USB port on a host computer, and a remote unit which the USB device connects to.

The units can be connected with standard low cost Cat5/5e/6 cable, extending the USB port by up to 50m at speeds of up to 12Mbps. At lengths of up to 40m, a USB hub can be connected to provide extension for multiple devices.

While USB is an easy to use connectivity standard, its use may be limited by distance from the computer. The Cat5 USB Extender overcomes this problem, so that USB devices that need to be used at a distance from the host computer, such as remote video cameras, can still be connected.

The Cat5 USB extender is simple to use. The local unit is plugged into the computer, the remote unit into the device or hub, the Cat5 cable is then plugged into both units and the extender is ready to use.

It can be used with a web cam, security device, printer or any USB device that needs to be located remotely. The Extender is bus powered, but an optional power unit is available for use with high load USB devices.

The LINDY Cat5 USB Extender (part no 42805) is available from www.lindy.co.uk and www.microanvika.com, for around £49.99.
