Salcomp of Finland, which manufactures chargers for mobile phones, has released a charger for portable devices with a USB connector.
The product marks the company’s expansion beyond the mobile phone market.
In September 2007, the Open Mobile Terminal Platform recommended a single universal USB cable connector, which offers only one interface, to connect both the phone’s charger and data cable, reducing the number of physical connectors.
Salcomp’s new charger has been approved by regulators in China, and approval in other countries is expected soon.
Salcomp recently announced that is has made over one billion chargers since in started production in 1988. The billionth charger was completed at the company’s plant in China on 25 October 2007.
