Wireless UWB USB Launched in Japan

Permalink: Wireless UWB USB Launched in Japan

Y-E Data Ltd has received official Japanese certification for its YD-300 UWB Hub - the first wireless USB hub based on Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology.

The YD-300, which is available now, is based on an UWB chipset from Wisair. It can replace any wired USB connection with a wireless link. This means that USB peripherals such as scanners, printers, remote hard drives or digital cameras no longer have to be placed next to the host PC. They can be placed anywhere in a room because data is transmitted wirelessly from the hub to the host PC via a dongle that plugs into a USB port.

The YD-300 has four USB 2.0 ports and provides full 480 Mbps transfers over the air at a distance of up to 10 meters. The only listed operating system supported is Windows XP. The company is planning to provide ExpressCard/34 and PCI Express Mini Card UWB solutions at a future date.
