MMCA’s new memory card spec plugs into USB

The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) has approved a new card specification that plugs straight into USB ports. The specification could make memory card readers obsolete.
The MiCARD specification will be used in consumer devices such as digital cameras and cell phones with the MMC interface.
Because the new card allows the transfer of data by slotting directly into USB sockets, it eliminates the need for memory card slots or dedicated card readers on a PC or printer.
Adaptors will be available to allow existing MMC devices to accept MiCARDs, although MiCARD slots will eventually be built into gadgets.
The MiCARD will provide data transfer speeds of up to 480Mbit/sec. It will measure 12×21x1.95mm.
The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) is the open standard memory card organisation. It promotes worldwide adoption of storage media and peripheral I/O devices designed specifically for mobile phones and digital imaging devices.
It enables applications to come together and share digital media contents.
