USB Dongles fire up HSPA spread

Many European countries have placed increased emphasis on crossing the broadband digital barriers that exist as a way to simulate the economy.
One of the most popular solutions found by European nations is to expand the HSPA which has resulted in many rules loosening around spectrum regulations. In fact, 11.6% of all EU broadband are already HSPA connections that are used as a primary broadband link at home according to a Berg Insight report in 2008.
The number of subscribers using these HSPA connections ranged around 14.6m which is a 74% increase from the previous years.
This number is expected to continue to rise alongside HSPA speeds which have risen for downloads from 3.6Mbps all the way up to 14.4Mbps. A rising interest in USB dongles is seen as the major factor in the rise in use as well as 3G, and landline replacements which also are expected to fuel the growth of HSPA across the EU.
Some professionals’ suspect that the growing dependence on HSPA may hinder carriers interest in 4G, but as wireless grows the interest will fall into place due to the fact once broadband is settled in people will naturally want to take it a level up.
Berg Insight has issued predictions that by the year 2014 HSPA connections will grow by 30% reaching up to 70m broadband customers.
The group noted that in North America only 4.5% of broadband connections are mobile comparatively. This may be due to the fact mobile broadband is more expensive in the US versus European countries.
