DisplayLink’s technology which expands visual workspace by connecting computers and multiple monitors via USB, has been extended to support Macs.

A beta version of the technology has been launched which allows up to four additional monitors to be connected to any Intel Mac via USB.

DisplayLink’s software works in conjunction with a plug-and-play USB docking station.

As the software is a beta version, some features are not fully implemented and a few bugs still need ironing out - there is no 2D acceleration, so window movements will be significantly slower than with DisplayLink software on Windows XP or Windows Vista.

OpenGL acceleration is not available either, so features of Mac OS X applications that require hardware OpenGL will not function properly, including Keynote presentations and iPhoto slideshows.

The DisplayLink Macintosh Beta Driver Software version 0.9b is available for download on the company’s website - www.displaylink.com/mac_beta_drivers.html
